An auto dealer in West Palm Beach, two hotels in Boca Raton, a prominent restaurant in Palm Beach and a laundry in West Palm Beach are among the employers to announce layoffs amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Braman Motorcars will lay off 190 workers in West Palm Beach as the coronavirus outbreak hammers the economy.

That cuts include 159 workers at Palm Beach Imports at 2901 Okeechobee Blvd. and 31 workers at Audi West Palm Beach at 2101 Okeechobee Blvd.

The dealership described the cuts in a letter to West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James and Palm Beach County Mayor Dave Kerner.

Palm Beach County employers have told local and state officials that they have laid off hundreds. A prominent restaurant and a laundry service are among the companies to file Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notices with the state. Among them:

Waterstone Resort & Marina. The property on East Camino Real in Boca Raton announced 111 layoffs.

Cafe Boulud. The high-end restaurant in Palm Beach laid off 99 people.

Gold Coast Linen Service. The West Palm Beach laundry let go 87 workers.

Hilton Boca Raton Suites. The hotel on Glades Road announced 41 layoffs.

Only a fraction of layoffs are reported through the WARN system. For instance, restaurateur Rodney Mayo said he has laid off 650 workers as he closed eateries, such as Howley’s and Kapow, but those job losses don’t show up on the state’s published list of layoffs.

Meanwhile, numerous watering holes, gyms, child-care centers and dental offices have shut their doors to wait out the pandemic. Economists predict double-digit unemployment and a precipitous drop in economic output.
