Destinations Career Academy of Wisconsin(WIDCA), a tuition-free, online public school, is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2019-2020 school year. WIDCA provides students in grades 9-12 from anywhere in the state with access to a uniqueonline Career Readiness program.
In addition to its full-time program, students enrolled in any Wisconsin public school can also enroll part time in online Career Readiness courses at WIDCA.
While working towards their high school diplomas, students can explore exciting career paths such as Health & Human Services, Business, IT, and Manufacturing and Trades.
WIDCA students enrolled in the Manufacturing and Trades pathway have the unique opportunity to participate in the Heavy Machinery Operators Pre-apprenticeship Program. A partnership with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139 and Fox Valley Technical College, this program prepares students to enter an apprenticeship training program in the construction industry. Students gain in-person knowledge and experience via the dedicated curriculum and have access to simulators of such construction equipment as excavators, front loaders and road graders.
“Some kids know what they want to do with their lives, and some don’t just yet. We wanted to give our students every opportunity to be successful, whether they are heading to college or into the workforce,” says WIDCA Head of School Nicholaus Sutherland. “By giving them early exposure to a variety of career options, we empower our students to shape their own future.”
In addition to Career Readiness courses, WIDCA’s curriculum includes courses in the core subjects of math, science, English/language arts, history, world languages, art and music. Students can take AP [®] classes as well. Wisconsin-licensed teachers provide live online instruction and communicate with students in the virtual classroom, as well as via phone and email.
Families can submit an application during the open enrollment window, which runs from Monday, Feb. 4 through 4 p.m. CST on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. Families are encouraged to attend an in-person or online information session hosted by the school. For more information on how to enroll, and for a schedule of upcoming events, visitwidca.k12.com.
